What We Design, Drawn Rather Than Described.

From a volume builder's standard house to an architect's cantilevered residence, these are the structures we design, shown as the sections and elevations an engineer actually works from. Premium engineering, delivered within your budget.

Footing and slab sectionSection through a stiffened raft slab showing the slab, edge beam, reinforcement and the reactive clay beneath. SLABREACTIVE CLAYEDGE BEAM
01

Footings on Reactive Ground

Stiffened rafts, waffle rafts, strip and piered footings designed to the site classification. The section shown is a stiffened raft on reactive clay, with internal beams positioned to the loads above.

Beam elevation under point loadsElevation of a steel beam spanning an opening, showing point loads, end supports and the deflected shape. LOAD FROM ABOVEDEFLECTION LIMIT GOVERNS
02

Beams and Load Paths

Steel and timber beam design for new builds, extensions and renovation works, across every structure type rather than houses alone. Member sizing, bearing and connection details, and the load path traced down through posts to footings sized for concentrated load. Deflection limits usually govern, not strength.

Retaining wall sectionSection through a retaining wall showing retained soil, surcharge load from a driveway, aggregate backfill and the subsoil drain. SURCHARGERETAINED SOILSUBSOIL DRAIN
03

Retaining Under Surcharge

Walls carrying driveways, structures and pools above them. Drainage, embedment and global stability are designed together, because a wall that can hold itself up can still slide.

Site and drainage planPlan view of a residential allotment showing boundaries, the proposed building footprint, site contours and the stormwater discharge point. PROPOSEDBOUNDARYSW POINT
04

Site and Drainage Planning

Footprint, levels, setbacks and stormwater coordinated on one plan, drawn to what councils assess against.

Borehole log and site classificationA borehole log showing layered soil strata with depth markings and the calculated characteristic surface movement. 0.51.52.53.0 CHARACTERISTICSURFACEMOVEMENTFILL
05

Ground Investigation

Boreholes logged against the proposed footprint, laboratory testing, and characteristic surface movement calculated to give a defensible site classification.

Timber wall frame elevationElevation of a timber wall frame showing top and bottom plates, studs, noggings and the rafter above. STUDS AT DESIGNED CENTRESRAFTER
06

Framing Outside the Tables

Layouts and member sizing where spans, rakes or cantilevers put the structure beyond standard span tables, including bracing and tie-down.

Portal frame elevation with tie-downElevation of a steel portal frame showing columns, apex rafters, wind uplift and the tie-down into the footings. UPLIFT GOVERNS THE TIE-DOWN
07

Steel Framing, Light and Heavy

Certification of framing designed elsewhere, hot-rolled portal frames and cold-formed light-weight framing alike. Light-gauge wall frames, joists and trusses are checked to AS/NZS 4600 and the NASH Standard (the national code for cold-formed steel framing), not the hot-rolled rules. Uplift usually governs, and the tie-down chain from sheeting through to footing is the part that decides whether the structure stays put.

Swimming pool shell sectionSection through a pool shell showing the reinforced walls and base, water line and surrounding ground. WATER LINEREINFORCED SHELL
08

Pool Shells and Interaction

Reinforced shells designed for the site, including pools on fill and pools whose loads interact with a nearby retaining wall or footing.

Trench inspection sectionSection through an excavated footing trench showing the reinforcement cage in position and an inspection sign-off mark. TRENCHSIGNED OFFREINFORCEMENT CHECKED BEFORE POUR
09

Inspection Before the Pour

Reinforcement, cover and setout checked while they can still be corrected, with the report issued to whoever booked the inspection.

Our standard

Premium Engineering, Within Your Budget.

Every set we issue is coordinated with your architectural drawings and detailed so a builder can set out from it without ringing to ask. That is the premium part. The fee is set to sit within your budget, and it is fixed in writing before any work starts.
